Annual Permit to Acquire Pistols / Revolvers

Permits to Carry  The process is easier than you think.

Permits to Carry are administered through your local Sheriff's office. All permits costs are non-refundable.  Permit to Carry allows you to acquire weapons.

A new permit to carry requires $50 plus fees and a valid driver's license or non-operator I.D. that contains your photograph and current address issued by the Iowa Department of Transportation. The permits are valid for five years from the date of issue. If the permit application is denied, a partial refund will be reimbursed to the applicant. The Sheriff's Office will retain the remainder for processing and handling of the application.

Renewing your current permit to carry requires $25 plus fees and a valid driver's license or non-operator I.D. that contains your photograph and current address issued by the Iowa Department of Transportation. The permits are valid for five years from date of issue. If the renewal application is denied, a partial refund will be reimbursed to the applicant. The Sheriff's Office will retain the remainder for processing and handling of the application.

A duplicate permit to carry requires $25 plus fees and a valid driver's license or non-operator I.D. that contains your photograph and current address issued by the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Annual Permit to Acquire Pistols / Revolvers  

You must have a permit to purchase.

To purchase a handgun, you must have an Annual Permit to Acquire Pistols / Revolvers issued from your local Sheriff's Office. To begin the application process, click the button above to apply and pay for your purchase permits. This is not a license to carry a handgun.

A permit to acquire weapons requires $10 plus fees and a valid driver's license or non-operator I.D. that contains your photograph and current address issued by the Iowa Department of Transportation. A permit to acquire is valid for one year from the date of issue.
